As summer (finally!) approaches, a whole host of new colours, patterns and themes are captivating homeowners and interior designers up and down the country. We’ve picked our favourite seasonal secrets to get your home summer ready.

It’s all in the detail

This season is all about embellishing. We’ll see more and more tassels, pom-poms and fringing on cushions, throws and soft furnishings, while fabrics will be textured with weaves, quilting, and intricate needlework. Layering these textures along with different patterns and styles will create impact.

Take home your travels

With most of us consumed by wanderlust during summer months, it’s no surprise that exotic elements are back under the spotlight. Coastal-inspired décor is still big news (see our blog on bringing seaside style into the home for inspiration), and Moroccan style prints will bring a touch of the exotic. Think tribal patterns, Aztec prints and woven tapestries in a kaleidoscope of rich colours.

Go wild with natural elements

Natural textures have been on our style radar for a while but are bang on trend for summer. Faux fur rugs, cushions and throws are back in a big way and look fabulous teamed with worn leather and raw woods. Metallics are here to stay but a big focus this season will be on mineral elements. Think ceramics, stone, marble, and particularly glass for anything from vases, plates, bowls, to wall art, inserts and tiles.

Art attack

Summer 2015 is your chance to get arty. On fabrics and wallcoverings we’ll see more and more brush stroke prints and painterly mark making, while hand-painted walls and carefully chosen art pieces also get our seal of approval. Hang wall art – we’re loving watercolours this season – or create a work of ‘art’ of your own with a feature wall. Choose the wall which will hold focus and paper with statement wallpaper for artisanal flair the easy way.

Just add water

Gone are the days when water features were just for gardens, now more and more people are bringing water indoors. Interior designers are pulling out all the stops to craft stunning indoor ponds and fountains, but even without a large budget or lots of space you can create a calm, fresh feel using water. Water walls, waterfalls and water ornaments are widely available and can be incorporated easily, whether as a focal point or just to add an element of tranquillity to your home.
