Set up a Seaside Space

A breezy coastal-inspired decor scheme is undeniably relaxing and serene, making it the perfect summer decorating idea for 2023. It can work in a variety of rooms but we find is especially well-suited to living spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The calming blue hues and crispy whites found in the Riviera, Aqua & Mineral colourways of our Portland fabric collection (pictured below) can be easily combined to create the perfect beachy vibes that you are looking for when trying to achieve a coastal style space. When combining striped fabrics, choose stripes with varying widths and patterns for a well-considered look, that creates balance and depth.

The coastal decor trend can be as formal or as informal as you like, so it is easy to have fun and experiment with it and create something that appeals to you. Fabric that features coastal-inspired designs such as sea birds, corals, and boats are a great way to add personality and a splash of colour to your scheme. Finish the look with washed woods, natural jute rugs, and accessories such as seascape wall art and ship-worthy lighting. Accessorising a coastal themed space is always fun, adding pieces of drift wood, and thrifted furniture reminiscent of light houses and beach huts.

Opt for Classic Country

A classic country-style decor scheme brings nature inspired colours, patterns and textures to a room in a soft and inviting way. Achieve this look by combining natural materials such as wood and stone with layers of soft furnishings to create a cosy, cottage-like feel. This will bring warmth to your space and create a welcoming country-style space that is easy to live in. Soft furnishing has a significant impact on the overall feel of a room, so choose your fabrics wisely. Layer plains and patterns carefully; when using patterns on upholstery it is best to keep the cushions plain or go for a plain fabric for the upholstery, and experiment with a mixture of colours and patterns on scatter cushions and throws. Softness is key here, so consider this when choosing your fabrics.

Our Country Journal collection (pictured above and below) is perfect for those wanting to create an elegant country-style look. Inspired by the serenity of nature, Country Journal features studies of alliums, woodland grasses, and meadow flowers alongside beautiful ferns and flower heads. ILIV also designed classic coordinating fabrics including a classic stripe and small-scale designs. They were created in order to perfectly complement each other, making it easy to place these fabrics together to achieve the classic country feel. The colour stories are based on heritage paint colours making it an ideal choice if you are wanting to create a sophisticated country-style interior.

Hotel Chic

Hotel inspired décor has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Minimalism within the bedroom space helps to create a sense of peace and relaxation, by removing all of the clutter of daily life – as you would find within a hotel room.

Dressing your bed with a mixture of cushions in varying shapes and sizes, adding plush throws, and hanging stylish floor-length curtains are all great ways to help create a hotel-like feel in a bedroom. Layering mixed textile fabrics will not only create a cohesive look but will build a feeling of luxury. One of the most important factors to consider when combining different fabrics is the colours that are used. Ensure that they are tonal, so they complement one another; mix patterns and plains within a coordinated palette to create a harmonious scheme. Below you can see our beautiful Babooshka Summer Malachite adorning a statement headboard.

When it comes to using pattern, large-scale designs work best when used on bigger pieces such as a dramatic pair of curtains or statement headboard. If space allows, go for drapes for a dramatic hotel feel. In smaller spaces, using a pattern on a headboard or piece of furniture will draw attention and make the room feel more chic without overpowering the room. See the statement Geometrica drapes, and Babooshka upholstered chair below for some hotel chic inspiration!

Bringing the Outside In

A botanical décor is perfect for the Summer months and is a great way to create a link to your outside space, which is becoming increasingly popular as we are looking to create more calming spaces in our homes. A good place to start with creating a blissful botanical-inspired interior is by choosing fabrics that reflect the outdoors - leafy patterns in varying sizes are ideal for this scheme and look beautiful paired with foliage and house plants. Our Victorian Glasshouse collection in the Spruce colourway (as seen below) is the perfect inspiration for a garden style decor that brings the outside in with leafy prints & nature based colours. A botanical theme is suitable for any room of the house but works particularly well when paired with a garden view.

For example, a conservatory is used as an extra seating area to enjoy the garden, but they actually make the perfect dining room too. Conservatory dining areas offer an ideal opportunity to experiment with pattern and colour. It is quite often the fabric that pulls a whole look together. From table settings to window dressings and upholstery, there are endless avenues to explore when designing your space. The Enchanted Garden collection in Pampas is the perfect example of this.

Inspiration from the Orient

Oriental decor is highly effective in conjuring up feelings of peace and calm, making them ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For creating a zen space with a modern feel try centring your colour palette on a tranquil blue colour. Blue is massively on trend for Summer interior design 2023 and is both soothing and invigorating, offering plenty of versatility in design. Used with crisp white and oriental inspired fabrics, it creates a cool calming feel - consider adding a statement piece of furniture in a complimentary statement colour such as a bold yellow to really make it pop.

Our Siyuri fabric collection offers a modern take on the traditional Chinoiserie design, and the Delft colourway (pictured above and below) is ideal for creating a blue decor scheme inspired by the Orient. The prints in the Siyuri collection feature cranes and mandarin ducks, floating serenely on oriental lakes, surrounded by delicate water lilies, whilst bonsai and other trees synonymous with the Chinoiserie style can be seen throughout the collection in beautiful jacquards and detailed embroideries. Smaller scale, structured Chinese lattice designs, and softer textural fabrics are also available, allowing you to combine fabric patterns with ease to create beautifully layered, matching interior schemes.
