Top tips for Christmas dining table decor
We attended a special Winter styling event last week with event stylist and florist Donna Carley and interior designer, Vicky Callan.
As well as the warm glow of twinkly lights, festive mince pies and fizz, the event showcased floristry, home decor and interior design tips and tricks. We thought we’d share some key takeaways so you can steal the style and create a stunning dining table fit for royalty this Christmas.
Select your materials
Christmas is a time when everyone’s more likely to get out their best tablecloth. Often we seek the home stores for thick linens or festive embroidery but sometimes creating the most perfect of dining tables can be done with the simplest of fabrics. Bright whites, taupes, steel greys and earthy oatmeals provide the perfect canvas for the decor to do the talking.
At the Winter styling event, our Lina voile fabric in mocha was used to cover the statement table with off-cuts of the same fabric providing a stunning placement for cutlery too. It was the perfect partner for metallic crockery and candle holders because the tones of the fabric provided a natural contrast.
Keep it cosy
Preferring to keep the tablecloth away to showcase the natural grain of your table can create a more relaxed feel altogether. A bare wooden table with just a couple of modern large vases featuring soft green foliage or bursts of pine and berries can offer a winter earth vibe.
To ensure this setting still offers a cosy welcome, opt for a sheepskin rug or throw with textured cushions draped over a bench to provide an indulgent seating arrangement. If you are more of a fan of dining chairs, sheepskin or linen looks divine draped down the seat so guests can sit back and feel snug.
Jewel-like colour pops
While this year’s trends are inspired by our natural surroundings, midnight tones with moody blues and luxe colour pops have grown in popularity too. This setting lends itself beautifully to Christmas due to its festive pigments and jewel-like colourways. Dark blue tableware with a metallic edge, stylish glassware, shakers and decanters can add authentic warmth and glamour.
Midnight tones look effortlessly classy against a a rich red velvet fabric so be bold with your choice of table runner and fresh flowers to achieve this look. Try our Wentworth Rouge or Tiverton indigo fabrics to provide the backdrop for luscious red roses, bright purple berries and decorative blue glass baubles.
