Our favourite window dressing trends
Whether you prefer decadent drapes, Roman shades or a simple swathe of voile, every window in your home deserves to be treated. Here’s our look at the of-the-moment trends, fabrics and styles that will keep your windows dressed to perfection.
Colourblocking
We’re long-time advocates of packing a colourful punch with some colourblocking. Roller or Venetian blinds in bright and bold shades are a great way to give any room an intense colour hit, and look great combined with clean lines and graphic patterns.
Geometrics
Geometrics are showing no signs of falling out of fashion and can make a real impact in blinds and curtains. One of our favourite looks involves shrinking the pattern right down to tiny dazzling micro-repeats in a high-contrast colour combination, such as the ILIV honeycomb fabric.
The natural world
A window is your portal to the world, so it seems only fitting to incorporate elements of the natural world into your drapes. Fabric designs inspired by mineral and rock formations will be one of the key trends moving into 2018, while jagged rock motifs and zig-zags will create a dramatic feel.
Metallics
Metallics are not only incredibly en vogue, but add a touch of luxury to any window. Think flowing curtains in gold or silver, which would look stunning when off-set against soft furnishings in cosy neutral shades, like soft grey or cream.
Botanicals
There was a time when floral curtains were reserved for your grandmother’s home, but no longer. Botanicals have proved time and time again that they are the mainstay of any modern country interior and truly reinvigorate any room. For a more contemporary twist, use larger motifs like in the ILIV Lilium fabric.
Texture
Just as important as the pattern is the texture. Thick materials make for a sumptuous, decadent look, while sleek and silky materials add a sense of a calm to your dwellings. For best results, intertwine the two to add interest and create atmosphere. You could even plump for both blinds and drapes in contrasting materials.
Voiles
Forget the stereotype of neighbourhood busy-bodies twitching their net curtains; done correctly and sweeping voiles exude elegance. Think lightweight, translucent and billowy. We’d steer clear of polyester which can sometimes look cheap, but the likes of muslin, silk and lace in gorgeous floaty panels will look delicate and understated.
Made to measure
While readymade options are viable, it’s fair to say they force you to compromise on a lot of things.
There’s little that can rival the bespoke, personal feel of a made to measure curtain or blind, and you have the freedom to add touches such as valances, tails and pelmets. Not only will a made to measure option provide more flair and personality with higher quality craftmanship and fabric, but you’ll end up with something unique that you can be proud of.
