Interior design for men made easy
There’s a fine line between creating a stylish masculine home and a cheesy man cave. This blog is a design school just for men, arming you with the knowledge to find your own style and allowing you to become proud of your space.
Dark tones
You may think white is way too feminine and you wouldn’t be seen dead with floral fabrics. Don’t worry, there’s currently a real contemporary range of upbeat geometrics and weaves wowing interior designers.
For cushions, throws, blinds and curtains you can opt to go dark and moody or mix and match dramatic prints for a harmonious interior. Use neutral shades of paint or greys on the walls or be brave and try metallic or geometric wallcoverings, which just ooze masculinity.
Fabrics and wallcoverings brand iLiv has just launched a new Matrix collection with fashion-driven colours of monochromatic blacks, jewel amethysts, vibrant citrus shades and on-trend indigo blues. The fabrics are luxurious and the wallpaper adds depth and texture.
Dramatic effects
You can add real strength and elegance to a room with one or more stand out items. Think sizeable art to add texture and vibrancy to an empty area, or majestic ornaments for the fireplace. Industrial chandeliers and uplighters can work extremely well in dark or plain rooms. The no-nonsense, no frills and clean lines are a hot favourite for blokes and can improve a room's warmth and character.
Chantelle Lighting, which works closely alongside a multitude of designers and architects, provides spectacular lighting pieces to suit every style and budget.

Take a seat
It’s perfectly fine to splurge on a chair, especially if it’s a showstopper, and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Choose your throne like you would choose a well-tailored suit. Spend time on visiting stores and sitting in armchairs, an iconic Chaise Lounge or a modern recliner, aiming to find the right balance between comfort and fashion.
Don’t forget - when you've completed your look you’ll want to show it off, so invest in some other seating for guests too. Mismatching chairs can really work but ensure you go for a similar colour or texture palette. In a small space, opting for a two-seater and a couple of small accent chairs (single chairs with small legs) is the secret to success. In larger rooms and apartments add larger leather swivel chairs into the mix.
Bedroom
When creating a slick bedroom, look gain inspiration from some of the best hotels you have stayed in or simply take a peek online.
Go for a minimalist designed bed as they can be a lot easier to keep looking good, rather than having to re-set multiple cushions and layers. Don’t skimp on the mattress, it’s very easy for guys to think they could save a few pennies here but you need somewhere to sink in to after a hard day and you could regret going for the cheap option.
Soften a very modern bedroom with a thick rug, some wooden furniture and some of your favourite artwork or song lyrics in photo frames. Add some trendy lamps to warm things up too, sometimes a dark plain room with bright lighting isn’t all that inviting.
Some things are for show
Believe it or not, men tend to collect more things than women or have often invested in something which deserves to be in full view. Discover fun ways to show off your memorabilia, whether it’s putting your watch collection in a special drawer, getting a good quality guitar stand or even placing a bespoke pin board in your kitchen.
