Spring has officially sprung, which means that a whole host of new trends are emerging for the home. We’ve rounded up our favourite styles to help you spring forward this season.

1. Pantone’s prophecies

Pantone, the authority on all things colour, has just released its Spring 2015 colour report. It’s described the report as “a move toward the cooler and softer side of the colour spectrum”, and the colours featured can be split into three distinct camps. Pantone’s colour of the year, Marsala, falls into a nature-inspired bracket of earthy colours, which includes Toasted Almond and Sandstone, along with the deep greens of Treetop and Woodbine. Blue features heavily in the report, with varying understated shades such as Dusk Blue and Classic Blue joining Glacier Grey and Titanium on the cooler spectrum of the palette. Finally, a mix of muted shades and pale pastels, including Lavender Herb, Strawberry Ice, Custard, Lucite Green and Aquamarine make up a softer, childlike cluster of candy colours. If you’re introducing a new colour scheme, any one of these hues will keep you bang on-trend.

2. Colour blocking

With such an eclectic mix of colours featured in Pantone’s colour report, it’s no surprise that colour blocking is a key trend this spring. As its name suggests, the idea of colour blocking is to use contrasting blocks of solid colour as opposed to stripes or patterns, and the ways to incorporate this style are endless. Add bold accessories such as oversized vases, lamps, wall art and cushions to accentuate key colours. Furniture is key too, why not invest in a statement table, or up-cycle an old piece of furniture by re-upholstering and painting it a bold colour? Colour block on walls using matte colours in strong shapes with clean lines, and introduce curtains in colour-blocked fabric; go bold with the iLiv Basalt fabric or the Harlequin Tranquil fabric for a more subtle, ombré look.

3. The power of the pattern

Prints have been a major success on the catwalk this season, be fashion forward and incorporate them into your home too. Stripes and plaid remain popular, while animal and bird prints have made a comeback, as seen in Laura Ashley’s Blue Birds wallpaper and iLiv’s Baa Baa fabric. We’ve been championing botanical and floral prints and the good news is this trend shows no signs of abating. As well as chic blooms in all sizes and hues, prints that depict meadow flowers, wild hedgerows and woodland trees will make a real impact this spring. Painterly mark making is another key trend for the season and can transform a room, whether in gentle watercolour fades, or child-like, expressive brushstrokes.

4. Natural selection

Spring trends favour a more relaxed style of living, inspired by the English countryside, and the best way to create an outdoorsy feel is to use nature itself. Think stone effect or wooden flooring and wooden furniture, the more rugged-looking the better. Accessorise with log piles, pebbles, wicker baskets and furnishings which have a more homespun, shabby chic feel. Textured fabrics, too, will enhance the rugged, natural look. Of course, the easiest way to bring the outside in is to use plants, layer pot plants in different shapes and sizes, fill jugs with flowering branches and plant lavender in teacups.

5. Golden touch

In keeping with the popularity of natural elements, metallics are key, although this season we’re moving away from ‘colder’ tones, like steel and chrome, and towards warm metallics, such as bronze and copper. Gold in particular is making a comeback this spring and can be introduced in a number of ways: handles, curtain poles, sink taps, candlesticks, picture frames, vases and light fittings are just some of the ways you may wish to add a golden touch. You could also update old items or pieces of furniture by spraying them with gold-leaf paint, for an easy but effective way to go gold and bold.
