Exciting as a new interior decorating project can be, finding the right dose of inspiration and information can be as time consuming as it is confusing. Here’s five of our go-to destinations for creative ideas – because after all, great design is in the detail.

1. Pinterest

The internet age gave us a world of inspirational images at our fingertips, but while a Google search is certainly quicker than spending hours cutting and sticking glossy magazine cut-outs into a scrapbook, there’s something about it that just doesn’t cultivate the same vision.

Then along came Pinterest. An interior design lover’s dream, Pinterest makes it easy to create inspiring moodboards from the thousands upon thousands of images available online. Or if you’re short on time, browse existing boards for some instant inspiration.

2. Bloggers

With so many helpful interior design blogs on the internet, creative styling ideas and unique finds are just a click away. From lifestyle blogs to those which focus solely on interior design, blogs usually incorporate beautiful photography alongside detailed advice for creating a stunning living space.

Here are some of our favourites, for your scrolling pleasure:

Bright Bazaar: An Aladdin’s cave of colour and contemporary design, this one’s for lovers of all things bold and beautiful.

Lark & Linen: Pretty and peaceful tips, tricks and case studies from Interior Designer Jacquelyn Clark.

Coco Cozy: Room by room style guides and wishlists from an LA-based blogger who can count Katy Perry as a fan.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped:  A London blogger bringing you global inspiration, Rohini also writes for Elle Decoration, Living Etc, Houzz and Design Sponge.

3. Instagram

It goes without saying that the photo-sharing platform is awash with picture-perfect interiors inspiration. The best way to find what you’re looking for is by searching the relevant hashtags, but here’s a few accounts we find ourselves frequently double-tapping…

@AmberInteriors: Photos so aspirational they could be straight from a magazine (just look at that lighting).

@Emily_Katz: For something a little more cosy, this account favours the rustic look with unmade beds and mismatched fabrics.

@myscandinavianhome: Chic and contemporary Scandi-style with a London edge, for fans of everything Hygge and hip.

@amerrymishap: If keeping things simple is more your thing, A Merry Mishap is perfect for monochrome minimalism.

4. Your favourite things

Your home is an extension of your personality, so why shouldn’t it be inspired by the things that are dear to you? You’ll often see children’s bedrooms styled around a favourite fairytale, and you can do something similar in a grown-up way.

Take design cues from a best-loved book, movie artwork, gig poster, or even your favourite television programme (have a read of our ‘Style secrets from your favourite period dramas’ blog to see how).

5. The world around you

Some of the very best interiors inspo can be found in the world around us. Visit a garden show to see how the season’s finest florals could be recreated in the home; spend a day at the coast for seaside-style ideas; or take a trip to an art gallery and be inspired by the use of colour.

Remember to allow your space to continuously change, as your life does. Your nest is a constant work in progress, so don’t be afraid to adapt to whatever treasures you come across on your travels.
