Corporate Social Responsibility & Responsible Sourcing

How we manage sustainability across the group

We believe that sustainability, like our service and our shared values, is most effective when it is part of how we operate day-to-day, and not a separate function. Our overall sustainability strategy and targets are set by the Directors, and reflect the areas that our customers, colleagues, communities, suppliers, shareholders and the UK Government consider are most important, and where we can make the most impact. The actions that we need to take to deliver against our targets form part of our everyday activities – for example our product development and sourcing process takes into account the sustainability of raw materials, packaging, and the social welfare and environmental practices of the factories in which the goods are produced.

What is OEKO-TEX-100?

OEKO-TEX-100 is a globally standardized certification that means the product is completely free from harmful chemicals and therefore harmless to human health.

In order to be OEKO-TEX-100 certified, every production stage and component of the fabric must comply with the standard and is free from harmful substances, including the dyes, sewing threads and prints.

What is the Better Cotton Initiative?

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global organisation and is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world, with the main aim of transforming cotton production worldwide by developing better cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.

This has been achieved by boosting the sustainability of cotton by interacting with the whole supply chain on how cotton is sourced. Reducing the environmental impact of cotton production, improving livelihoods and economic development in cotton production areas, improving commitment to and flow of better cotton throughout the supply chain and for the sector's future.

One of our most popular fabric collections, Imprint, is part of the BCI that features beautiful nature inspired designs such as The Oak Leaf fabric and Great Oak fabric. Also, within this collection, if you’re looking for a more contemporary fabric the uplifting Spotty fabric and the classic Rowing Stripe fabric, all available in a range of colours to suit your home.

What is Global Recycled Standard?

Global Recycled Standard is a product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. This standard applies to the full supply chain which addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements and chemical content labelling. The standard covers processing, manufacturing, packaging and distribution of all products made with a minimum of 20% recycled materials. The goal of Global Recycled Standard is to increase the use of recycled materials in products and reduce or eliminate the harm caused by its production.
